Explorations in prop making part 3

So after dropping GB off at daycare I came home and got setup to start glueing my pep together.

The first thing I realised is that I should have done a test run on something small. I had never used this glue gun before and it took some getting used to. That said, my first section came together nicely.

The second thing I learned is that I should have pre scored and folded my pep :- Some sections would have been a lot easier had I done that first off, but I thought that not folding the pep would give me rounder lines, which it did, but it also made lining pieces up a little harder.

I started scoring the pep pieces with my scalpel. I think this is where the 300gsm cardstock really helped, I was able to lightly drag the blade across the card without fear of cutting all the way through.

Things went a lot smother after that little realisation. The crown of the helmet has a couple of dips and bumps in it  especially where I didn’t line things up right.

The keen eye will notice I’m missing a cheek piece. I didn’t realise until after I’d take the photo and after I’d tried to glue the bottom edge on. I’m quite happy with how it is coming together.

All done and re-enforced with supports. Next step will be resin the outside then fibreglass and resin the inside.

Finished!

So off to Bunnings I go!
