Just a short post today.
I finished cutting last night and am all set to glue.
[edit: Okay so not so short.]
One thing I have done that I think will pay off in the long run, is to leave two faces at either end of each piece still attached.
I have done this so that all the pieces are on their original sheets in an easily manageable way. When it comes to glueing on Friday I will just need to make two cuts on each piece as I need it.
Finding the correct piece should be a lot easier thanks to TryHonesty14’s handy “How to use Pepakura” Instructable.
- Save your PEP as a PDF
- Select all tab numbers on page one and copy/paste them to NotePad.
- Fix the numbers so they show up one tab number per line. (Some tab numbers will join together. This is easy to spot in most cases)
- Past it into a Google Docs or Excel spreadsheet, so you get something like this:
This should shave some time off the gluing process.
Over the weekend I will need to make a Bunnings run to get epoxy resin. I’m still not confident I know which epoxy I should get (are there different types?).
So between now and the weekend I’ll be trawling forums to get as much info as I can. I’ve already worked out that Bondo is the same as Builder’s Bog, of which I have a metric shit-load!
I have all the carving, shaping and sanding tools I need, it’s just the whole fibreglass and epoxy thing that is new to me.
Just found this post on US to Australian conversions on the 405th Infantry Division forum.
Looks like Bunning is the place for me. As well as a quick to SuperCheap Auto to grab a visor 🙂
